Journalism Is Not A Crime
19/11/2019
Note
On Friday 15 November 2019, Palestinian photographer Muath Amarneh was shot in the eye by Israeli soldiers while covering clashes in the town of Surif, north of Hebron. The Popular Resistance Committees in Surif had called for Friday prayers on confiscated lands west of the town, after the occupation authorities placed a fence around it to prevent citizens from entering or passing through.
It is worth mentioning that an escalation in the seizure of Palestinian lands had begun as Tel Aviv's government continues its policy of expanding the confiscation of lands owned by Palestinian citizens as well as public lands belonging to the treasury of the State of Palestine, and building more housing units in settlements in the West Bank, according to Jafra News and other news outlets.
Campaigns were launched online and on the ground by Palestinian and Arab activists and journalists campaign in solidarity with the Palestinian photographer Muath Amarneh after receiving confirmations of the complete loss of his left eye.

Al-Sarout, The Martyr
9/06/2019
Note
Abdul Baset Mamduh al-Sarout (1992-2019) was a goal-keeper in al-Karama Club, in Homs, and in the Syrian national football youth team.
He joined the revolution since its beginning and was known for the songs he sung during Homs' daily and nightly demonstrations alongside Fadwa Suleiman. His songs became known all over Syrian and his voice became a symbol of anger, protests and sit-ins inside and outside of Syria.
As the revolution entered the armament phase, al-Sarout established the "Bayyada Martyrs Batallion" and he fought against regime forces in Homs. In 2014, he left Homs under an evacuation agreement with the regime, after a horrendous siege was imposed on the opposition's factions in the old city of Homs, which lasted two years.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, al-Sarout lost his father and four of his brothers during the bombing and the battles in the city of Homs.
After he left the city, he was appointed as field leader in al-Azza Army, positioned in the Syrian north. There, he participated in several battles, the last of which was in Hama's northern countryside during the military escalation that was launched by the regime and its ally Russia since the end of April 2019.
On Saturday 8 June 2019, Abdul Baset was martyred as he succumbed to wounds he had sustained during these final battles, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, other opposing factions, and several local and international news outlets.

Nizar Ali Badr is a name that has recently become famous after appearing on the show Arabs Got Talent and executing an artwork using stones, showing fake sympathy towards the displaced Syrian refugees.
However, in reality, this person and everyone who resembles him are the actual reason behind the displacement of Syrians, and it was necessary to respond quickly through a painting executed by our brother, artist Aziz al-Asmar from Binnish. The painting embodies the bitter reality experienced by our people in the areas of asylum and the rough roads they had to take to get there.

Nizar Ali Badr, nicknamed "Jabal al-Safoon", won the admiration and sympathy of the jury of MBC4's Arabs Got Talent, when he executed an impressive artwork depicting the immigration of the Syrian people due to the Syrian war. Badr used stones to portray people carrying their belongings and fleeing with their families. However, Syrian activists took to social media to express their anger towards what happened on the show, saying that Badr did not mention that the Syrian regime with its chemical weapons and barrel bombs is the reason behind the displacement of Syrians from their towns and villages, according al-Modon newspaper.

The Revolution Is The People’s Choice
22/01/2019
Note
The slogan "Freedom, peace, justice.. the revolution is the people's choice" has recently dominated the chants of the Sudanese masses who took to the streets to demonstrate against al-Bashir's government.
The demonstrations began in early 2019 because of the high cost of living and the scarcity of some goods, prompting demonstrators to attack and burn down headquarters of the ruling National Congress Party. More demonstrations started spreading in many cities and regions, promising a popular revolution similar to those that took place during the Arab Spring, according to several news outlets.

On Friday 23 November 2018, unknown gunmen assassinated media activists Raed Fares and Hammud Junaid by direct gunshots, in the city of Kafr Nabl in the south of Idlib, northwest of Syria.
Fares was one of the first young men who participated in the Syrian revolution in 2011 and one of the most prominent leaders of the peaceful movement in the governorate of Idlib. He also played a major role in showing the civil and cultural face of the city of Kafr Nabl through multilingual banners and cartoons that were held in demonstrations, to show the world what the Syrian revolution is truly about.
Fares was the director of the local radio station “Fresh,” which criticizes militant groups, including the Levant Liberation Committee. He was chosen as information officer for Kafr Nabl banners, and was also the director of the Union of Revolutionary Bureaus (URB).
The Nusra Front, which has been merged into the Levant Liberation Committee, has arrested Fares twice: first in 2014 with the photographer Hammud Junaid at a checkpoint in Ma'arat al-Nu'man, and the second time in 2016 when he was with activist Hadi al-Abdullah at the radio station in Kafr Nabl, according to Enab Baladi.

They Are Not Numbers

Note
The Coordination Committee of Darayya's Diaspora shared from Darayya's civil registry a list sent by the regime on 27 July 2018, which includes the names of the detainees who died under torture. The list contains between 950 and 1000 names while another list is expected to be released soon.
Civil registration offices in Syria's cities and governorates had received lists containing dozens of names of previous detainees who were killed under torture in the prisons of al-Assad's regime. The regime's statements claimed that the cause of those deaths were "cardiac arrests", according to Shaam News Network.
